Yes, that?s right! Vegetable purines do not increase uric acid in our bodies, and they can be ignored. You might need to be careful with foods high in animal purines, but there is no evidence to show that foods high in vegetable purines will increase uric acid.
You CANNOT ignore veg. I turned vegetarian, my gout has got really bad in the fingers. I had it previously with fish and omega 3 but now Mushrooms are DEFINITLY making things worse!
November 14, 2014 at 2:27 pm #18363Keith TaylorKeymasterOK Ian, you’re absolutely right. If you are a vegetarian, you cannot ignore vegetables. But you can ignore the purine content of vegetables. In fact, you can probably forget about purines in your food completely, unless you go back to eating flesh.
What you have to remember is, your body turns vegetables into flesh. Also some vegetables are quite high in iron.
To help you plan what to eat that suits your gout, I have to know a lot more information. Let’s start with some basics: height, weight, amount of exercise, uric acid test result history, and the length of time since your first gout attack.
