Just putting this info out there that there may be a link between tramadol use and hyperuricemia:
I was prescribed Tramadol 50mg x 3 a day for torn muscle in groin. After 2 weeks I suffered an extremely painful gout episode and increase of uric acid in blood sample. Is this a side effect.
July 15, 2015 at 12:06 am #21791BarryParticipantAs I am allergic to iboboprofen and similar anti-inflammatories my doc tried me on tramadol for pain ease – took once – NEVER again – had such a bad reaction – was on a tube train on way to London to catch eurostar to France and nearly got off as I went hot and faint and anxious – awful feeling – did pass after a looooong 20 minutes but as said NEVER again.

Having said that, it was a very effective painkiller for me, so it might be worth considering. This seems especially relevant given the increased FDA warnings about heart risks from NSAIDs. It’s also relevant for people who cannot tolerate NSAIDs.
Like all pain relief for gout, it has to be a personal decision based on your unique circumstances. I would definitely warn against taking tramadol whilst driving, or any other task that requires concentration.
I’m very suspicious of the data that links it with higher uric acid. It just looks like a collection of trawled “facts” to me, with no clear evidence about the source of the data, or the medical history of the 4 cases mentioned.
