allopurinol vs uloric?

I've been suffering from gout for about 3 years now. Up until last week I was taking 400mg of allopurinol,?and my uric acid level was at 5.3.?? Every week I would still get a pain/pinch in my left ankle, but?occasionally in my right knee. So, after talking with my doc we decided to?give uloric a try. I'm taking 40mg not sure how that would compare to 400mg of allopurinol. After about the 3rd day of taking Uloric my ankle started a pinch and this is now the 9th day and it's still lingering. I've been taking colcrys but not?sure if it's helping, the old colchicine seemed to do a better job. Is there any dosage comparisons between the 2 drugs (allopurinol/uloric). I go back for a uric acid test in 5 weeks and I will be very curious to see if my # increased or decreased. I would be happy to give a follow up on my results.

Both medications release the purines or proteins that create the uric acid levels. which in turns causes flair ups. There are other alternatives medications that are not nearly as expensive. Over the counter Naproxen sodium approximately 3-4 pills per day. do not take them with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory meds. Get your doctor to prescribe indomethacin 25MG 4 dollars at Kroger's for 30 use during flair up about 75 mg. quick relief for myself in the past. The uloric has not showed me any promise neither has the allopurinol uloric over 140 dollars the allopurinol 4 dollar prescription at walmart.? Don't tell them if you have insurance it will cost you more. However, not doing anything about gout could shorten your life, if it attacks your kidneys. I have been on allopurinol for along time and my tophies have not ceased from growing and causing irreversible cartilage damage to my hands, feet, knees, hips and elbows. I have tried 300-450 mg of allopurinol and have recently started 80 mg uloric once per day if i do not see any results with in a month i will return to the less expensive allopurinol.

I found that if you go to ulorics website you can get a discount card for $25 off each time you fill your percription. If you don't want to wait for them to send you a discount card try your pharmacy. Mine had a uloric discount?card that?I called?ulorics automated service to active while?I waited.?For a 30 day supply of uloric I was paying about?$30 so about $1 per pill this is at cvs with private insurance they couldn't quote me without insurance because they said there is no generic for uloric. But for allopurinol it was less expensive without insurance than with insurance. Sure dosent make much sense to me but whatever. With $25 off i'm paying $5 which is about the same as allopurinol. My doctor writes me for a 90 day percription so I just pick up 30 days at a time so I can use the $25 off each one.
